my last 3 weddings …….

July 3, 2010

…… have all asked for additional albums for other members of the family . This is fantastic news as it means that they must really have loved the originals.

It may sound simple putting pictures in an album but I personally design each page and spend hours on the finer details until each one stands up as a mini work of art in its own right.

Thankfully those efforts are worth the while and appreciated by my brides and grooms.

Triss and Kelly….

March 29, 2010

…….had a wedding with a navy theme to it -befitting that they are both from Plymouth , a town of obvious naval tradition. Kelly was a stunning bride making her way to HMS Drake where her goom, Triss, waited in full uniform at the church.

The Chaplain led an emotional service before the party moved onto the Royal Yacht club overlooking the Hoe at Plymouth to continue the celebration with a wedding breakfast and evening reception. The weather was wet and with a cold wind blowing across the sea the opportunity for outside photographs was restricted but we still got some lovely shots.

The Bride and Groom were rarely without a smile on their face all day and this set the tone for a good family celebration. There were many sore heads the following day.

Congratulations Guys – lets hope that life is ” plain sailing” from hereon:

Tony and Madeline live …

January 28, 2010

in Worcester at the moment but have been trying to move down to Buckfast for some time as they just love the area . When they married, their dream was to marry in Buckfastleigh Abbey and they did just that. Tony admitted in his wedding speech that he met Madeline through a singles club that he started through his local church. Reading between the lines he looked through all of the ladies that applied, chose the best for himself and then wound it down. He claims it was at the request of his local priest but…..

A lovely couple these are a few of their photographs from a wettish and coldish day . Congratulations to you both

So much for new years resolutions…

…mine was to keep this blog up to date.

This is a quiet time of year for weddings but I took the opportunity to catch up on a few of those things that you cant make time for when you are busy. I revamped my dvd software and undertook training to take that to the next level. I took a trip to look at the new breed of wedding albums and they look great with further updates in March. I looked at some new camera equipment – boys and their gadgets eh?

A small flurry of commercial shoots have come my way but for reasons of confidentiality I cannot post images on the web. Exciting times for certain client companies who are not only fending off the recession but actively growing. Thanks for the business guys.

I said Weddings were quiet but there has been an engagement shoot and my first wedding of the year. A couple of Portrait sessions too as business gains momentum for 2010. I have quite a few projects ahead but i wont tempt fate by saying too much until they are ready to go. For now ….

its such a great feeling ….

November 9, 2009

…when people dramatically increase their original order. It means that the reality is so much better than their initial expectation.

When I quote for any new business , the customer is buying a concept of how it will be and what the photographs will look like . To hear how ” wonderful” the photographs are and that a wedding customer is ordering 4 times the original number of Photographs – gives such a buzz.

When a client who wanted a single photograph decides to buy 7 to ” solve all my Christmas present issues” – you realise that you are getting it right.

I do love this ” work”.

PS- Just heard that I have a photograph going into an International Magazine on a 2 page spread

When Mike and Laonie ….

November 6, 2009

……. decided to marry there was only ever going to be one venue, the beautiful church of St John the Baptist in Marldon, a village in which Laonie spent much of her childhood. The Reverand Peter Bellenes knows her family well and felt it very fitting that this was his last formal service before his retirement .

The service was a personal comittment of love between 2 special people with Laonies daughter Lydia as flower girl and William as ring bearer.

The reception was held at the excellent Bickley Mill who provided a first class service and nothing was too much trouble.

Laonie gave a speach which literally hypnotised the audience and took them back in time, whilst Mike – who admitted to having mislaid his original notes , responded off the cuff with some heartfelt thanks and personal comittments to his new family.

Congratulations to you all and may you live happily ever after.

new wedding page, new wedding prices..

October 9, 2009

…….the wedding page for 2010 has been relaunched and with it a new pricing strategy.

I will explain the reasoning behind my rethink:

If I am in the privileged position to be asked to photograph your wedding then it seems inappropriate to leave at a set time- just because I have only been contracted for example to photograph for say 6 hours or perhaps until the cutting of the cake. I will have reserved the day for you anyway so I will take photographs for as long as you wish me to remain present .

For this reason I charge a set photography fee for the day of £350. This is the only cost that you will be obligated to pay .

I will provide a quotation for an album/storybook of your choice but you dont actually have to order that until 2 months after the date of the wedding when you will have had an opportunity to see the quality of the Photographs which have been taken.

The cost of the slide shows/ dvds and prints are quoted on the website so that you can choose which of our services you opt for when you know and can see what you are buying.

I am absolutely confident that when you have seen the work that i put in to capture the highlights of your day , when you have appreciated the quality of the edited Photographs, when you have enjoyed the dvd , you will understand why I am happy to be judged upon results .

If there are any queries at all please feel free to get in touch

bookings up…

September 18, 2009

for next year and pleased to report the number of local has increased too -means less travelling next year .

Put some new images on the wedding gallery to freshen that up a little and for a change it loaded first time – yippee.

Will maintain the offers on the web for just a couple more bookings and will then have to return to previous prices. Even at full price we are more competitive than most comparable photographers but Nikon bring out new lenses in 2010 and further investment will be needed to ensure that we continue to use only the very best equipment .
